Kewaunee County will begin collecting its 0.5 percent sales tax beginning on Saturday. The Kewaunee County Board approved the sales tax last September as a way to make up funds lost when the Dominion Power Plant ceased operations in 2013 and other expenses continued to rise. Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation Chairperson Lonnie Vincent says it is unfortunate the county had to enact the tax, but is hopeful for the future.
The county sales tax, expected to raise $750,000 per year, is set to expire in 2021.
