The strong new home building statistics from last year looks to be carrying over to the first quarter in 2017. According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the annual rate of single-family housing starts from June of 2015 to December of 2016, increased over 100,000 from 694,000 to 795,000. Jim Thibodeau of Stony Creek Builders says the trend is continuing this year for his business.
New home sales reported a big increase as well in 2016. The total new homes for sale rose 20,000 to 259,000 in December, according to the NAHB. First quarter home sales for 2017 will be available early next week.
