The city of Algoma and other areas in Kewaunee County are looking to make pathways to the historic Ahnapee trail more diverse and accessible. Algoma City Administrator Jeff Wiswell says there is a renewed interest in making the Ahnapee trail even more meaningful.
Wiswell says the very preliminary plans would offer double trailing for bikes and pedestrians with a potential upgrade to asphalt in the future. The Ahnapee State Trail spans about 50 miles between Kewaunee, Casco, Algoma and Sturgeon Bay. The current eight to 10-foot wide trail has a firm surface for hiking, trail bikes, and horseback riding.
