For Vilius and Alma Vaicekauskas, the thirst for experiencing a new culture through the J-1 Visa program over 10 years ago has led to a new life in Door County. The two Lithuanian sweethearts first came to the area in 2004 with the J-1 visa and worked at several businesses before returning a few years later to complete an internship in the lodging industry. Other than a plane, Vilius says the kindness of the people brought him back to Door County.
Now the owners of the Sister Bay Inn, Alma says she hopes to extend the same opportunities to international students that were afforded to her.
The Vaicekauskas family says Bridges, a Door County cultural program for international students , has been great for those adjusting to the American culture.
