A desperation 3-point shot made by Florida’s Chris Chiozza at the buzzer in overtime was enough to dash the dreams of the Wisconsin Badgers in an 84-83 instant classic at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
In his last game for Wisconsin, senior Nigel Hayes led the way for the Badgers with 22 points, with fellow classmen Zak Showalter, Bronson Koenig, and Vitto Brown chipping in with double-figure scoring performances as well.
The Badgers had no answer for Florida’s sophomore guard KeVaughn Allen, who led all scorers with 35 points. Florida will move on to face South Carolina, a team amidst their own dream tourney run after going winless in the NCAA’s over the last 40 years.
Brown, Hayes, Koenig, Showalter leave Madison as one of the most successful senior classes, boasting 115 wins program wins including back to back Final Four runs.
