A grass fire in Egg Harbor Thursday evening served as another reminder for what the changing seasons mean for the area. The Egg Harbor Fire Department, Door County Sheriff’s Department, and Door County Emergency Services responded to the grass fire just after 6:30 p.m. after a homeowner’s disposed embers from a wood stove ignited the ground. With winds hovering at 20 m.p.h., the little moisture on the ground was what kept the fire manageable for crews. Egg Harbor Fire Chief Steve Schopf says it is another reminder for residents that drier weather is approaching and with that is a higher risk for fires.
Units were only on the scene for about 20 minutes, but the fire did claim about 200 square feet of grass.
