In addition to saving hundreds of tons of items from area landfills, the Door County Habitat for Humanity is providing new life to furniture as well. According to Hardware Retailing magazine, the popularity of do-it-yourself television shows and social sharing site has more people trying to refinish the old rather than replace with the new. In the same spirit, Door County Habitat for Humanity Executive Director David Van Dyke says its Reclaim for A Cause event hopes to capitalize on the trend with craftsmen donating refinished items from the ReStore back to support the organization.
Interested participants can pick up pieces for free from the Door County Habitat for Humanity ReStore to refinish before June 8. The items will go on the silent auction block June 22 with all proceeds going to support Door County Habitat for Humanity.
