Most high schools require students to perform a certain amount of community service hours in order to graduate. The requirement at Sturgeon Bay High School is 40 hours but Principal Bob Nickel says many students go above and beyond the minimum.
Nickel says the school is involved in a program in which the Sturgeon Bay Breakfast Rotary Club honors students for their community involvement every month during the school year. According to the Education Commission of the States, the local school board may require students to “participate in community service activities” to earn a high school diploma.
