The Door County YMCA Swim Team also known as ‘DCY Swim’ will comprise of 52 swimmers this weekend at the state meet in Milwaukee. Head Coach Mike McHugh said he is extremely proud of the young swimmers that qualified for the biggest meet in the state.
Door County swimmers ranging in age from six to 19 years of age qualified for state this year. McHugh knows there will be lots of personal record times swam this weekend at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
Coach McHugh was especially impressed this year by the number of B relays that qualified for state. He added that the younger kids are really strong this year. “This weekend is the culmination of the season for most of the team. DCY Swim has already qualified five swimmers to nationals including Max McHugh, Brock Aune, Macoy Neinas, Jared Klika and Katie Kaminski (100 and 200 breaststroke).” Stella Kersebet is also within a second of qualifying for Nationals in the 100 breaststroke and Coach McHugh hopes this is the weekend she hits her time.
