Music and Door County has been two of pat mAcdonald’s passions throughout his five decades of singing and songwriting. mAcdonlad, who received a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1987 as a member of Timbuk3, says his mother got him interested in music at very young age and played with three bands during his high school days.
mAcDonald also toured Europe for seven years in the 1990’s. After Timbuk3 broke up, mAcdonald and his sister Christie Weber founded the Steel Bridge Songfest in 2015 to save the Michigan Street Bridge. He used that motivation to write a song.
mAcdonald and singer melaniejane operate the Holiday Music Motel in downtown Sturgeon Bay which features a Thursday night Writer’s Night to showcase local talent and the Love on Holiday event every year. mAcDonald says he’ll never forget his roots and love for the area as well as the music since his great-grandfather Joseph Zettel was one of the first orchard owners in Door County.
