While the legislative battle over a law that would see earlier starting dates for Wisconsin schools continues, the Door County Visitor’s Bureau is asking for continued support towards keeping the start date in place. Republican Rep. Jim Ott has pushed a bill that would reverse a 2000 state law, allowing schools to start before September. The move has the support of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, however many believe that it would harm tourism throughout the state. Jon Jarosh from the Door County Visitor’s Bureau says that local support is needed if the law is to remain unchanged.
The school start date change is one of the main items on the agenda for the upcoming Door/Kewaunee County Legislative Days, which will see local constituents take local issues to Madison to try and gain lawmakers support.
