Democratic State Senator Dave Hansen hopes his colleagues on the other side of the aisle join his view of the debate on redistricting reform. His bill, SB13, would mimic the Iowa model of redistricting and turn the process over to an independent board instead of allowing politicians to draw the maps. With citizen action groups supporting the measure and higher courts ruling the older maps were unconstitutional, Senator Hansen hopes Republicans stop spending money trying to defend it.
Of the 46 names that have signed onto SB 13, Rep. Todd Novak of Dodgeville remains the only Republican to support it. Attorney General Brad Schimel officially appealed November’s decision last week and the case will now wait to be heard by the United States Supreme Court.
