Sturgeon Bay School District is proving a greenhouse can be so much more for students than a place to grow plants. Students are using small, single-board computers called Raspberry Pis to create small greenhouses where temperature and light can be controlled. Superintendent Dan Tjernagel believes this is just the start of something special for students and teachers alike.
The eventual goal of the program is to be able to grow fruits and vegetables to be enjoyed by students in the school’s cafeteria. Donations are currently being accepted for a planned greenhouse facility.
