Fire departments across the county are taking advantage of the weak ice and changing weather conditions to work on water rescues. While the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Association worked on their water rescue protocol in the friendly confines of the Northern Door YMCA pool, multiple agencies put their practice to work Saturday afternoon when four individuals from Green Bay fell through the ice near the Town of Gardner. Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Chief Curt Vandertie says this is the time of the year when they often find themselves in water.
Despite the recent water rescue, Vandertie says the BUG and Southern Door Fire Departments will still practice their techniques this Saturday to prepare future emergencies.
