With Election Day exactly four weeks away, city officials want to remind property owners that political lawn signs can only be displayed on private property. Political signage is not permitted on the “tree lawn” which is the green space between the road curb and the sidewalk. Sturgeon Bay City Planner and Zoning Administrator Ryan Kernosky says that property is technically owned by the city and that bigger signage must comply with the city’s sign code that addresses vision intersection safety.
Kernosky adds that if you do not have a sidewalk on your property, placement of a sign should be 12 feet from the edge of the street. If you have any questions, Kernosky says you can contact him at City Hall in Sturgeon Bay.
