Ham radio operators in Kewaunee County are proving to be indispensable when it comes to helping with emergency response. Five operators in the county help with public service communication support through the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) programs. Emergency Coordinator Dan Heinrich, operating under the handle of W9JFM, says even though the number of ham radio operators is dwindling, they still provide an important service to the counties they serve.
Licensed and trained ham radio operators are invited to join Kewaunee County ARES/RACES and attend an informational meeting at the fairgrounds on March 18 beginning at 10:30 a.m. You can learn more about the meeting online with this story.
