The first weekend of each March in Wisconsin is designated “Aldo Leopold Day” as many across the state remember Leopold’s legacy of environmentalism. Several local environmental groups have set out to make sure that Leopold’s message is still heard. Coggin Heeringa, Director of Crossroads at Big Creek on how “Aldo Leopold Day” became a team effort in Door County.
Leopold’s posthumous release, “A Sand County Almanac” was read in sections at each location over the weekend. The book, centered in Wisconsin, has become a landmark in American Conservation.
