A stomach bug is the culprit for many students staying home from school in recent weeks. The Norovirus is peaking in Door County, leaving many with flu-like symptoms in addition to diarrhea and vomiting. Door County Medical Center nurse practitioner Nicole Welter says she has seen plenty of cases at the Southern Door Community Clinic in Brussels and advises that you should take it easy if you have it.
Over 20 million cases of the Norovirus are reported each year in the United States and there could be 50 percent more cases in years when a new strain is introduced. Welter recommends not going back to work or school until 48 hours after symptoms disappear.
