For the first time since 2014, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will travel to Madison as a team for the state tournament on Saturday. The Spartans have already had success in the state capitol, boasting seven medalists. Senior Phil Rasmussen (285) and sophomore Bryce Bosman (113) led the way by picking up individual state championships. Dalton Smerchek (2nd, 170), Lucas Joniaux (4th, 106), Nate Ronsman (4th, 126), Devan VandenBush (4th, 152) and Nate Lloyd (4th, 220) all made the podium during the three-day tournament.
Standing in the way of Luxemburg-Casco’s 12th state championship is Lomira at 10 a.m. and the winner of Ellsworth/Lodi potentially at 3 p.m. Lomira sent seven wrestlers to state with Tyler Garriety (106), Chase Parr (152), and Collin Feucht (195) taking 3rd in their weight class. Heavyweight Adam Kinyon made the podium with a 6th place finish. The Lions are making their second trip to Madison as a team after beating Valders 51-12 in the sectional final.
Tim Kowols and Luxemburg-Casco coaching legend Bob Berceau will have the call beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the prematch show and the opening whistle at 10. The game will be broadcast live on 96.7 WBDK and on the DoorCountyDailyNews.com Facebook page. If the Spartans win, we will preview their match against the winner of Lodi/Ellsworth beginning at 2:30 p.m. before the first whistle at 3.
