Sturgeon Bay Powerlifting will have five student athletes set to participate at the state meet March 11 at Racine Horlick High School. Brenna Zuehlke, Luke Brinkman, Logan Narrance, Nick Greenlaw and Nathan LeRoy all qualified for state. Three of the five state qualifiers were in studio this week and shared their excitement.
Coach Ryan Zuehlke and Coach John Vercauteren joined the student athletes in studio. They told DoorCountyDailyNews.com in the two years the club has existed the team has tripled in participation. The team is not sanctioned by Sturgeon Bay High School so getting kids to state and/or Nationals is a financial commitment passed down to the students. Nationals this year will take place in Scranton, PA.
Each coach talked about the need for travel expenses and new equipment for the team. They put out a call for financial assistance on the air and said the best way to make a difference was to find them on Face Book or seek out one of them in person. They said the best place to find them was in the Sturgeon Bay High School Weight Room before or after school.
