Joyce A Cherney, 73, of Denmark, died February 24, 2017, after a brief illness at Bellin Hospital, Green Bay, WI with her family at her side.
She was born August 31, 1943, to the late Raymond and Agnes (Valenta) Duckart. She was a lifetime resident of the Denmark area. Joyce married Leroy Cherney on July 25, 1964, at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tisch Mills, Wis.
Joyce graduated with the Class of 1961 from Denmark High School. After graduation, she worked for the Mirro Corporation until she married. After raising her two sons, Duane and Bruce, she entered employment at Dufeck Mfg where she worked fortwenty-five years. Following Dufeck’s she worked at Aurora Hospital in the Kitchen until the time she had her stroke which prevented her from returning there. After her stroke, she worked at Copps in Green Bay and for a short time at Denmark High School in the food service.
Joyce, Leroy and Duane were noted for the fish boils they did at Cedar Ridge Restaurant for many years in Maribel. They were also very busy doing pig roasts for many people. To compliment the pig roast, Joyce was famous for her sauerkraut and dumplings. They knew how to put together a great meal for the people sometimes serving over 150 people. Joyce had the opportunity to drive Jim Rabas, Sr steam engine for the small town parades and festivals that were in the area. She was the only other woman that drove the engine besides Jim’s wife, Millie, who was the first.
She was a member of St James Church, Cooperstown, where she helped serve funeral dinner meals.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years, Leroy, two sons, Duane and Bruce, all of Denmark. She is also survived by one sister, Carol Herold, Manitowoc, one brother and sister-in-law, Edwin (Donna) Duckart, Maribel, two Half-Brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald (Joan) Duckart, Richard (Donna) Duckart, both of Denmark, four Brothers-in-law and one1 Sister-in-law, Harvey Jorgensen, Green Bay, Sylvester (Darlene) Parma, Tisch Mills, Alvin Cherney, Leonard (Marilyn) Cherney, both of Stangelville, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her step- mother, Clara, sisters, LaVerne Jorgensen, Lorraine Parma, brother-in-law, Wayne Herold, sister-in-law, Joanie Cherney. Grandparents, Michael and Katherine Duckart, John and Rosealis Valenta, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Matt and Dorothy Cherney.
Friends may call at St James Catholic Church Cooperstown, 18228 Co. Rd. R, Denmark, WI from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. James Dillenburg officiating. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Cemetery in Manitowoc.
