Only one Door or Kewaunee County high school girls basketball team will be competing in the sectional tournament Thursday. The Kewaunee Storm won a regional championship last night with an impressive 53-41 win over #2 Valders. The Storm won the crown on the road in a hostile environment as the #3 seed. They were again led by the incredible mother and daughter duo of Coach Lynn Geier and team Captain Brooke Geier. Kewaunee will travel to Manitowoc Lincoln Thursday night for a 7:00 PM tip-off with #1 seed Wrightstown.
The Wrightstown Tigers had a 17 point lead on Southern Door last night, only to see the Eagles come soaring back to tie the game in the second half. Megan Pavlik scored 17 to lead the come comeback but Wrightstown did just enough to hold onto victory 59-53 to win a regional championship. Grace LeGrave scored 11 points, Gabby Atkins notched 10 and Megan LaCrosse added eight points in the loss.
Brandon Wautier after his final game as Eagles Varsity Coach said, “We played against a great team with a lot of girls who could score from anywhere on the court. I am super proud of the way our girls battled back from down 17 to tie the game. We came up just short but it was a successful season and we have a lot to be proud of.”
