The Door County Board will submit a letter of concern to the Wisconsin Department of Resources Thursday when the government body holds a public hearing for a permit for a farm expansion. According to the DNR website, S&S Ag Enterprises, owned by the Schmidt family in Sturgeon Bay, applied last fall for the reissuance of its state pollutant discharge permit which could affect ground and surface water in the Ahnapee River Watershed. During a joint committee meeting hosted by the board of health and the soil and water conservation department, county administrator Ken Pabich says it drafted a letter that will be submitted as public comment during the hearing.
The practice of measuring soil depth and the karst features of the county were some of the concerns listed in the letter, which will be read at the hearing being held at the Forestville Town Hall Thursday beginning at 9 a.m.
