Dozens of community members gathered at the Luxemburg Village Hall Monday evening to attend an emotional special unveiling of artwork. American Legion Post 262 invited the families and friends of three fallen soldiers from the Luxemburg-Casco community and presented painted portraits of Jess Thiry, Dean Opicka and Luke Zimmerman. All three marines died in action fighting the war against terror in Iraq between 2004 and 2008. American Legion Post 65 Commander Paul Kahr from Nekoosa thanked the families for making the sacrifice of letting their sons serve our country.
The paintings were done by 94-year old World War II veteran from Pennsylvania.
