Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is giving the Department of Natural Resources free reign to hike camping fees and other maintenance costs in his proposed budget as the DNR looks to raise revenue. Among the DNR’s most recent recommendations is a raise in camping fees based on park popularity, meaning substantial increases at Peninsula State Park. Rachel Stollenwerk, Board Member of the Friends of Peninsula Park, says that the increases would mean more revenue for parks statewide, but would not affect specific projects for the higher traffic parks.
The proposal calls for expansion of electrical sites on campgrounds and would also allow the DNR to sell naming rights to park facilities.
