Legislation adjusting the starting date for schools in the state is meeting some resistance by those in the tourism industry. Republican Rep. Jim Ott is circulating a bill that would reverse a 2000 state law and allow schools to start before September. While the Wisconsin Association of School Boards applauds the move, Jon Jarosh from the Door County Visitor Bureau says it would have a negative impact on area tourism.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, August is only second to July in total tourism spending. This marks the fourth time Rep. Ott has brought the bill up for discussion.
