A Sturgeon Bay resident believes it was wrong for the city to spend taxpayer dollars and use public utility bills to spread its side of the west side waterfront dispute. The city of Sturgeon Bay placed a flyer in with the bills from Sturgeon Bay Utilities last month, touting the accomplishments of the redevelopment of the west side already made and the costs it was incurring due to its current lawsuit with the Friends of the Sturgeon Bay Public Waterfront. Bruce Joffe voiced his displeasure with the move to the Common Council during its meeting Tuesday afternoon, saying he knows it costs time and money to do something like that from his years running a public relations firm outside of Washington D.C.
An email to city administrator Josh VanLieshout requesting a final estimated cost of the mailing was not returned. Today marks the first day of the trial between the city and the Friends of the Sturgeon Bay Public Waterfront. We will post updates from the Door County Justice Center throughout the day.
