Marion Rose Orthober, 96, of the Town of Egg Harbor, was called Home to be with the Lord and was reunited with her husband, Hubert, late Friday afternoon, February 3, 2017 while at Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay with family at her side.
She was born July 18, 1920 in the Town of Gardner, the daughter of August and Irene (LeRoy) Corbisier. Marion initially attended high school in St. Louis, MO and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1936. She was united in marriage to Hubert Robert Orthober on November 26, 1938 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Egg Harbor (now Stella Maris Parish-Egg Harbor site). Marion and Hubert were blessed with over 57 years of marriage and were members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Jacksonport (now Stella Maris Parish-Jacksonport site). He preceded her in death on March 16, 1996.
Marion initially worked at Ridge Point Supper Club in Green Bay which her half-brother owned and later at White Gull Inn in Fish Creek as the head cook for over five years, but she devoted most of her life to taking care of her family at home and the family farm on Sunny Slope Road in the Town of Egg Harbor.
She was an awesome cook who had an amazing ability to coordinate the serving of an entirely hot meal. Marion loved gardening and taking care of her flowers, playing the organ, and listening to polkas and big band music. She also enjoyed sewing and making various preserves.
Marion’s love will live on in the hearts of her three sons, Robert (Liz) Orthober of El Paso, TX, Brian (Judy) Orthober of Sturgeon Bay, Jeffry (Joan) Orthober, Sr. of Basking Ridge, NJ; nine grandchildren, Keile Juckem, Robin Orthober, and Neil Orthober, Kevin Orthober, Connie Rickmeier, and Kristi Orthober, Monique Schafer, Roseann Orthober, and Jeffry Orthober, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha and Stephanie Juckem, Kati, Kristi, and Jacob Orthober, Hailey and Mitchell Rickmeier; and two great-great-grandchildren, Rilen and Briar.
She was welcomed Home by her parents; husband; and six siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Stella Maris Parish-Jacksonport site with Fr. David Ruby as celebrant. Marion will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, beside her husband, Hubert.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with a parish wake service to be held at 7:00 p.m. and led by Pastoral Associate, Becky Nash. **There will be no visitation at the church, Friday morning, prior to Mass.
