In order to attract some new businesses to the area, the Door County Economic Development Corporation hopes it can do the same for people in the housing industry. The housing vacancy rate in Sturgeon Bay stands at just three percent, which means prospective employees are struggling to find a place to live before they even commit to a position. DCEDC Executive Director Caleb Frostman says he has high hopes on the number of calls he has received over the last month inquiring about building multi-family housing developments in the area, especially since many of them have local connections.
Frostman says the strong workforce is another factor many developers are considering when planning their buildings in Door County. One of the new developments, the Bay Lofts apartments, is expected to be open for occupancy May 1.
