Despite the cold temperatures, Door County’s five state parks are giving visitors an opportunity to check out what they have to offer. While campers have been sparse, state parks have been busy with visitors participating in winter programming while hikers, snowshoers, and skiers explore the trails. Erin Brown, a supervisor at Potawatomi and Whitefish Dunes State Park, says no matter the season, people just seem to like getting outside as long as the weather permits.
One popular winter activity at many Wisconsin State Parks is the annual candlelight ski, which was canceled at Whitefish Dunes last week but still taking place at Peninsula State Park (2/4) and Newport State Park (2/11) this month. You can see other upcoming events at the Web sites of Peninsula, Potawatomi, Newport, Whitefish Dunes, and Rock Island State Parks.
