Another milestone for the improvements slated for the Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department district was reached as bids were opened for various parts of the new south station project. A total of $3 million is budgeted for the project and a renovation at their north station, with up to $2.2 million approved by the three towns during an advisory referendum last year and $800,000 from the county for the on-site ambulance facility at the south station. B.U.G. Fire Chief Curt Vandertie says now they are just waiting for the bids.
Work on both B.U.G. Fire Department station projects is slated to begin in the spring.
