Town of Liberty Grove Chairperson John Lowry calls claims made in a release from the village of Sister Bay regarding ownership of the area’s wastewater treatment plant “erroneous at best.” The village announced on Tuesday that it would seek a declaratory judgment regarding the ownership of the Sister Bay Waste Water Treatment Plant, stating the town of Liberty Grove only obtained ownership of the facility’s “capacity” and not its physical assets. Lowry says the town wants to protect the $250,000 in investments it has made in the plant along with making sure future boards do not have to deal with decisions that occur without their input.
In the years since the two sides agreed to a successor agreement, the town of Liberty Grove has had one new member added to the Utilities Commission, giving them three representatives on the six-person committee. The village will continue to provide town residents utility services during the impasse.
