Only one Wisconsin Republican has signed on to support a bill that would turn redrawing district boundaries over to a non-partisan body. Rep. Todd Novak of Dodgeville has joined 45 Democratic legislators in Madison as a sponsor of Senate Bill 13, which would have a non-partisan, professional state agency draw the district maps following certain criteria. Rep. Novak says he has constituents in parts of five different counties. That is something he believes could change.
In contrast to Rep. Novak, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting plans by other Wisconsin Republicans to hire two law firms to fight last week’s ruling by a judicial panel to redraw district boundaries by November.
