After losing both contests to their foes from Michigan last year, the Green Bay Phoenix got on the right foot this time around and defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 80-72.
The Phoenix never trailed in the contest, led by Khalil Small’s 16 points. Warren Jones, Kenneth Lowe, Kerem Kanter all added 14 points of their own in the contest. The game got close in the latter stages as the Golden Grizzlies got the deficit down to five with just 92 seconds to go. The Phoenix responded to every punch with a blow of their own, knocking down lay-ups and free throws to close the game out.
The Motown trip continues for the Phoenix when they face the Detroit-Mercy Titans at 1 p.m. Sunday.
