An amazing start and a heart stopping finish made for one of the most exciting playoff games in recent memory for Packers fans Sunday. A 34-31 win featured an NFL record three field goals of 50-plus yards in the closing minutes. Mason Crosby had to make his game-winning 51-yarder twice after a Dallas timeout to send Green Bay to the NFC Championship next Sunday at 2:05 PM against the Atlanta Falcons.
Aaron Rodgers led the game-winning drive with :30 seconds left on the clock. A “school yard” play drawn up in the huddle by two-time NFL MVP ended with a tremendous sideline catch by Jared Cook (tonight’s guest on the Jim Olson Motors Red Zone in Sturgeon Bay). Rodgers finished 28/43 passing with 356 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Cook was the top target finishing with six receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown. Davante Adams had five catches for 76 yards and Randall Cobb finished with seven receptions for 62 yards. Ty Montgomery led the team in rushing with 47 yards compared to the 125 Ezekiel Elliott put up for Dallas.
The Packers will again need to beat the Falcons in Atlanta to move on in the post season. It is yet another parallel to the 2010 Super Bowl run that also went through the Superdome. Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman will be hard to stop. Aaron Rodgers has been up to the task for eight weeks in a row. Why not nine?
