Odell Beckham Jr. had four catches for 28 yards despite 11 targets in a losing effort for the New York Giants. What he did or did not do during the game is not what’s in the news Monday morning though. It was his antics following his press conference that has social media a buzz.
In my 13 years covering the Packers this is a new one. I had finished up interviewing Packers players in their locker room. As I walked down the long hallway towards the Giants locker room, I heard a pounding. The noise was coming from a little guy in a white hooded sweatshirt. As I approached, a million thoughts are rushing through my head. As I passed the distraught young man and glared back, the golden locks were unmistakable. It was Odell Beckham Jr. taking out his frustrations on the wall.
In the minutes after the hole appeared everyone wanted to know who, how and why. The locker room door next to the hole in the picture was filled with grounds crew members and other game day operations employees. They all heard the noise and quickly sprung out to see what the commotion was all about. As they opened the door, they were looking at Beckham and me. After flashing a quick photo,I followed the wide receiver into a small hallway where his handler asked me to leave.
After a few minutes I tried to re-enter the side hallway and the two men were still talking things out and again asked me to leave the area. Emotions overflowed as they often do for the Pro-Bowl wide out. This time his actions may again be accompanied by a fine from the NFL and a bill from the Green Bay Packers for a drywall patch.
It was not a great day on the field for Beckham and it got even worse following the second year pro’s first playoff football game in the NFL.
