The Wisconsin Badgers football team ended their season with an exclamation mark with a victory over the Western Michigan Broncos on Tuesday 24-16 in the Cotton Bowl. While in doing so, they also became the only Associated Press Top 10 team to win a bowl game from the BIG 10 conference during bowl game play. The other teams in the mix attempting to earn bowl game victories this season were Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State.
We watched Michigan go down to ACC member Florida State in dramatic fashion losing 33-32, sending Jim Harbaugh into another post-game frenzy. Ohio State got embarrassed in Phoenix by another ACC member Clemson 31-0, which earned the Tigers in a spot in the title game against the University of Alabama next Monday night. Finally, Penn State was defeated in a crazy shoot-out by a younger USC Trojan team in the Rose Bowl this past Tuesday night 52-49.
Granted that Western Michigan isn’t considered a “high caliber” opponent by many, however the numbers never lie and Wisconsin was the only team from the BIG 10 within the AP Top 10 to earn a victory during the college football bowl season.
The Badgers will be without Corey Clement, Bart Houston, and Leo Musso beginning in fall of 2017, as they attempt to build on the momentum gained from this past season. Junior Linebacker T.J Watt will follow in his family’s footsteps upon his announcement that he has declared for the 2017 NFL Draft and will miss his senior season.
