Members of the YMCA are required to abide by a certain list of sanitation guidelines in order to prevent the spreading of germs throughout their workout facilities. A recent report released by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services stating 161 cases of the flu have been reported so far this season, and 95 of those cases required hospitalization. According to a recent article released by Fitness Magazine, some of the “germ hot spots” gym-users should be aware of are the free weights, weight machines, and medicine balls. Northern Door County YMCA Executive Director Heidi Erickson talks about their expectations when it comes to equipment sanitation.
Erickson says with the expected increase of member activity at the YMCA beginning on January 1st though the end of February, the staff is asking members to be diligent about following these guidelines. Erickson recommended that out of common courtesy for other members if a member is feeling feeling sick or has flu-like-symptoms to stay home and recover instead of coming into the facility and potentially spread more germs.
