State Senator Dave Hansen calls the latest decision to remove language about climate change from the Department of Natural Resources’ Web site a continuation of a lack of transparency that has been occurring since 2011. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the DNR changed the wording on its Web site concerning climate change from emphasizing human activity causing heat-trapping greenhouse gases to stating that academic institutions outside of the DNR are researching and debating the topic. Considering the number of scientists that believe in human involvement playing a role in climate change, the edits to the Web site without any discussion irk the Democratic senator.
Sen. Hansen compared the decision to make the edits to an attempt to remove the “Wisconsin Idea” from the UW System Mission Statement almost two years ago during budget discussions.
