The Michigan Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay will be closed for over two weeks for repairs beginning on Tuesday at noon. The repairs have been needed since beams on the historic bridge were struck by a backhoe back in April. Mark Kantola from the Wisconsin Department of Transportations says in addition to the timing of the project to not interfere with heavy marine and tourism traffic, the beams had to be recreated using three-dimensional imaging technology.
The bridge will be closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic until Friday, January 20. The driver of the semi towing the backhoe will be responsible for the approximately $200,000 repair bill.
