Playing at the home of the UWGB Women’s Basketball, the Kress Event Center, Sturgeon Bay varsity boys basketball put on a show against Wrightstown. The end result was not what Coach Jim Benesh was looking for but a great battle occurred between two very solid area teams. Wrightstown was able to hold off the Clippers 71-66.
The Clippers came out of halftime on fire. A 12-0 start to the second half had the Clippers back in it. Free throw shooting became an issue down the stretch for the Clippers. Conner Gajda tried to will the team to victory with 33 points. However, Wrightstown’s three-point shooting specialist Derek Zwick often had the answer and finished with 27 points.
The game was a part of the Sundrop Shootout put on by Shawano High School in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin Green Bay.
