Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort north of Sturgeon Bay was evacuated this morning (Wednesday) when pool chemicals were combined and caused a dangerous reaction. At about 8 o’clock the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the resort and arrived within fifteen minutes, according to Fire Chief Tim Dietman.
20 to 24 rooms that had been occupied were evacuated at Westwood Shores. Ten people were treated at the scene with the two maintenance people that mixed the chemicals being transported for breathing issues to the hospital as a precaution, according to Door County Emergency Services Director Dan Williams. People staying at the resort were able to return to their rooms shortly after 10 am when monitoring showed the air to be safe.
