Gibraltar defeated Sevastopol handily on Thursday night by a final score of 85-46. Gibraltar dominated from the opening tip with four different players notching double digit scoring numbers for just the first time this season. Nathan Surges, Tyler Kropuenske, Nathan Ewaskowitz, and Trevor Reinhardt all notched at least 10 points each across the board which contributed to the overall success of the Vikings. With the win Gibraltar moves to 3-2 on the year in Packerland conference play and depending on the outcome of other games tonight, might be within the top three spots of the Packerland conference.
Sevastopol had some bright spots tonight, but are still a young team with plenty of freshmen who will be better off in later years to come. It is a tough matchup when there are freshmen playing against seniors but the Pioneers showed a lot of heart tonight led again by Nelson Demmin who had 11 points on the night. Another bright spot was Eddie Garcia who picked up his game and aggressiveness in the second half that led to some fast break opportunities. Overall however, the Vikings were just too much to handle and the Pioneers now fall to 0-5 in Packerland conference play.
Gibraltar Head Coach Justin Burress reflected on tonight’s matchup, and how the team got off to such a great start.
Gibraltar plays next on January 2nd while Sevastopol’s next matchup will be on January 6th.
