City council races are beginning to form across Door and Kewaunee County as the deadline looms for nomination papers to be turned in.
In Algoma, the incumbents Bruce Charles, Jacque Wiese, Mitch Groessl, and Lee Dachelet have taken out nomination papers. Charles remains as the only one to have turned his nomination papers into Algoma city hall.
Incumbents could see challenges in the spring election in Sturgeon Bay. In District 1, incumbent Kelly Catarozoli and former alderperson Danny Wiegand have taken out nomination papers. District 3 alderperson David Ward is the only candidate to have returned his nomination papers. While incumbents Jerry Stults (District 5) and Will Gregory (District 7) have not taken out their nomination papers yet, Judy Dobbins (District 5), Laurel Hauser and Joe McMahon (both District 7) currently have theirs in circulation.
The Kewaunee clerk was out of the office on Tuesday and could not be reached.
Prospective candidates for the city councils have until 5 p.m. January 3 to turn in their nomination papers.
