The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 3:00 pm this afternoon through Saturday evening. Periods of heavy snow expected this afternoon through Saturday evening, followed by another round of bitterly cold temperatures for Sunday.
Winds expected to be increasing from the north-west Saturday afternoon, and evening will produce blowing and drifting snow. Cold temperatures combined with gusty north-west winds that will produce bitterly cold wind chills Sunday through to Monday.
Hazardous travel is expected this afternoon and tonight as significant winter storm tracks from the central plains toward the Great Lakes region. The heavier snows are expected to arrive later this afternoon and evening. The snow will become heavy at times tonight.
Much of the area will receive 6-12 inches of snow by Saturday afternoon into the evening.
