Three of the top 30 safest communities in the state of Wisconsin are in Kewaunee County according to a home security web site. AlarmSystemsReview.com took into account statistics from the FBI and the Census Bureau along with other factors to develop the nationwide rankings, which declared Wisconsin the 11th safest state in the country. The city of Algoma grabbed the top slot with a violent crime rate of 0.3 per 1,000 people and a property crime rate of virtually zero. City administrator Jeff Wiswell says it is a testament to the police officers and sheriff’s deputies that do their job on a daily basis.
The village of Luxemburg (0.0 violent crime rate, 4.3 property crime rate) was ranked the 9th safest community according to the list, while Kewaunee (1.7 violent crime rate, 6.2 property crime rate) came in 25th. Sturgeon Bay was ranked 79th.
