The Village Board of Egg Harbor held a meeting based on the recent filing of a petition for direct legislation by referendum over some of the planned capital improvement projects in the village. According to Village Administrator Ryan Heise, the meeting went “fine.” Various options were presented to the Village Board of Trustees, either to adopt the referendum as presented or to place it on the spring ballot. Heise says that they came to a decision rather quickly.
According to Heise, there will be no public hearing regarding the referendum held by the Village Board since that “isn’t a part of the process.” Heise also believes that there will be discussion amongst residents at both trustee meetings and through community conversations regarding the pros and cons of the referendum, so that voters will have the necessary information available to make their decision when they head to the polls. Voters will have the opportunity to vote on the referendum during the spring elections.
