Law enforcement officers throughout Door County came together on Saturday for the 14th Annual “Chop & Shop with a Cop” Event hosted by the Door County Sherriff’s Department. This morning, the different members of law enforcement teamed up with families in need this holiday season and shopped at Target for Christmas presents. The department was also able to secure Christmas dinners for the families as well as a full-sized Christmas tree which should make the holidays for those families very special. The event was started originally by Lieutenant Tammy Sternard of the Door County Sherriff’s Department, who talked about what the event means to her and why law enforcement officers come back every year
The families gathered at the Knights of Columbus building in Sturgeon Bay after the shopping spree at Target. Hundreds of items were being wrapped by both law enforcement officials and families alike, engaging in fun conversation which created a special atmosphere. The gifts will be taken home with the families this week to be put underneath the Christmas tree waiting to be opened on Christmas Day.
