Luxemburg-Casco graduate Evan Kanz capped his five-year college football career at Eastern Illinois by recently receiving second team all Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) honors. The 6-‘5″, 285 pound offensive tackle was also a second team all-conference selection following the 2014 season.
The veteran lineman was the only senior on a unit that ranked third in the league in total offense at 404.8 yards per game. The Panthers offense was first in the OVC in 3rd down conversion.
Kanz never missed a start in 35 games over his final three seasons with the Panthers. He also saw action in 14 games during his rookie season. EIU finished the 2016 season with 6-5 record to post the program’s second straight above .500 season and the fourth winning campaign in Kanz’s five years at Eastern Illinois. He played on two playoff teams, blocked for two 1,000 yard rushers and won one conference championship during his tenure.
He was also recently named to the 2016 Prairie State Pigskin blog’s all-Illinois offensive team.
Evan’s younger brother Spencer will be part of the Cotton Bowl team at Western Michigan that faces the Wisconsin Badgers on January 2. Spencer is redshirting this year and won’t see game action.
