For the first time in over a year, the Southern Door Eagles wrestling team left the mat of a dual meet with a victory, beating the Gillett-Suring Matmen 46-21 in Suring.
Starting the evening at 106, Wyatt Herzog scored first for the Matmen, earning a 7-1 decision over sophomore Ben Kieler. The Eagles then captured three first period pins by Fischer Pawelski, Logan Walker, and Ben Hoida. Following a pin by the Matmen’s Reid Winkler, the Eagles won three of the final five matches, including pins by Michael Bertrand and Tory Jandrin and a major decision by Raul Lopez. Heavyweight Cody Ruelle Graham ended the evening for the Eagles with a forfeit.
The next action for the Eagle wrestlers is this weekend in Suamico when they battle some of the best wrestlers in the state. You can listen to Thursday’s match on-demand at DoorCountyDailyNews.com. The next Eagles Wrestling broadcast on 104.1 WRLU is on January 5 when the Oconto Blue Devils visit the Southern Door Gym.
